The recently declared CBSE evaluation pattern does not augment well for the mass criteria of students. Same pattern if followed by HSC board will be a major disaster.
Students will be evaluated based on their accomplishment from class 10 to 11 and pre 12. However, this criterion is an injustice and is not sufficient to evaluate a student as many subjects are altered in class 11. Also many students may not have taken studies seriously in Std X and XI and may have been very sincere in Std XII. By compiling marks of three years we are meting out injustice to the students who may not have done well in Std X and XI exams.
Also how are you going to justify the aggregates when students may have shifted from one board to another after X?
The students’ result in class 12 should be calculated based on their performance on internals and practical, including viva, open book test and many other evaluation methods available. No average marks in class 10 and 11 should be taken into consideration. If it is being done it is a gross injustice.
CBSE should ensure that a transparent and strong evaluation system is taken up to record internal evaluation and online written evaluation for class 12 students.
It is said that about 40 per cent of the marks will be based on Class 12 pre-board exams, 30 per cent on the Class 11 final exam and 30 per cent marks will be based on best-of-three Class 10 marks. How illogical can it be? Many students pursue extracurricular activities in sports, fine arts etc during class 11 and in school. But they concentrate on XII as the stepping stone for their career making. If by chance a student has missed out on marks in the previous classes, are you going to penalize the student based on your whims and fancies.
Practical will be for 100 marks and the students will be evaluated based on the marks submitted by the schools is a fair criteria.
“If a student is incompetent to meet the modifying benchmarks which the board has spread across three years of study, without the student knowing beforehand that this is going to happen, they will be placed in the ‘essential repeat’ or ‘compartment’ category. Students who are not satisfied can appear again when the CBSE conducts Class 12 board exams,” Mr Venugopal told the court.
I think only bright students will be satisfied with this criterion and it does not cater to the masses. Think again, you are playing with the lives of students who have already suffered a great deal due to the pandemic.
