Motivation/ Inspiration in Covid Times

Motivation is a product of the inner soul. As human beings, we are multifaceted. We lack control over our emotional state, sentiments, our opinions, or even our activities Corona pandemic in a way may turn out to be a boon if we look at the livelier side. This epidemic has given us the chance to go deep into our souls and find out our past mistakes and to be a better human being by trying to help the needy around us, make the world a better place to live.

Pandemic is a taxing experience.

On top of that being home locked is additional cause of despair. We all know that our mental and physical health are reliant on each other. Endless trauma can generate unbalanced hormonal emission and can cause numerous physical illness. We therefore need to take care of our emotional health on urgent basis.

Reason for Stress

COVID-19 is triggering grave demise numbers throughout the world. It is indeed a frightening peril for everyone. Because we are viewing rising death numbers through numerous broadcasting, negativity is hitting us badly in our confined state. In such conditions our psychology works in diverse shapes. We then undergo FIGHT, FLIGHT or FREEZE approach.

FIGHT, FLIGHT or FREEZE Approach

‘Fight’ approach is about fighting the problem or danger in some way. This could be evident when we become angry with the condition. We become ill-tempered with others, practice fanatical handwashing or cleaning habits.

‘Flight’ approach is when you try to detach ourselves or distance ourselves from the fact. This can be articulated as diversion into work, becoming over-productive or evading the newscast.

‘Freeze’ approach is the incapability to change or perform against the threat. This may be manifested as indifference, or by too much consumption of the wrong foods for comfort.

This is the normal response method of our mind.

We have to choose what approach we have adapted to. We have to relate with the indications, only then remedy can be found. As of today, we all are only relating to the thought of deterrence. We are trying to cope with the situation and trying to find out the easiest means to keep our minds renewed.

Maybe we are experiencing the fact that we are living with a genuine threat. Our daily life is disturbing and we cannot bring it back to normal. We are realising that life is short and unwarranted, and nothing is sure anymore. We are slowing filling up with stress and our mental health is deteriorating.

What are the remedies to stay sane?

We should not become agitated with such kind of negative thoughts. We must exploit this period for our improvement. Let’s check out some suggestions.

  • We should not get detached from usual feelings.
  • We need to take each day as a normal one.
  •  We are surely irritated of being in the confines of our homes but remember that we are conducting ourselves as responsible citizens by taking part in the task of breaking the transmissible chain.
  • The stress we are feeling, is not for the infection by the virus. Actually, we are discouraging ourselves by the fear of death and this is making us agitated, out of control, annoyed.
  •  In such situations we need to avoid social media and focus to some degree on productive outputs like household tasks, reading online books if we don’t have a physical copy, spending some quality time with aged persons at home which I am sure we have not done in a long time, playing with kids and pets, which can be the purest form of entertainment we can have in such a low-spirited period, making an intimate connect with ourselves through meditation, scrolling down our phone books and finding out numbers of forgotten friends, calling them and saying sorry for not contacting so long.
  •  Our such travel down memory lane will yield positive vibrations and happiness in our minds and we can prohibit our greatest enemy called ‘Stress’ from entering our minds.
  • If we are working from home then we need to prepare our schedule strategically so that we can take care of our house needs and do not get hassled due to multitasking.

 Importance of physical fitness.

  1. We need to make a timetable for free hand exercises. It has two great properties. It will lead to calorie burning and happy hormone secretion.
  2.  We need to eat healthy food, eat less in quantity and more in times. We should avoid junk food and remember that most of the health-related services are very difficult to avail nowadays. Most of the private clinics are closed and hospitals are full of covid contaminated patients.
  3. We need to sleep for at least 8 hours a day. A person can endure without solid food for 26 days or more but without sleep a person can survive for maximum 11 days.  To sleep soundly is a necessity to keep a good physical and mental health.
  4. We need to drink sufficient water. We should avoid chilled water. It has no usefulness. It can worsen digestive or esophageal problems.  It is always better to have warm water which helps in digestion, blood pressure, acid secretion, coronary functions and other related hazards.
  5. In these Covid times we need to avoid unwarranted smoking or drinking. It will not lessen our depressions or tensions or anger. It will provide a feel of easiness which will last for few minutes but it will have extended adverse effects on our anatomy. We need to be on the least risk for ourselves and for our loved ones and family.

We should remember the saying that when the going gets tough, the tough get going. 😊

We need not worry as we all know that every dark cloud has a silver lining and bad times will ultimately pass. But if we can cultivate some few quality behaviours during this constricted condition, we may upgrade ourselves to a better form of ours.

Many people ask me about what I do?

I am not working at present and I have been forced to retire before time by some people with selfish motives, so my life hasn’t changed much.

I order takeaways when I don’t feel like cooking, I avoid going to a place where smoking happens so that I can  avoid second hand  inhalation of smoke. I have my daily newspaper on my iPad so that  I don’t have to go out to buy a physical version of it. I order most of the things like vegetables, fruits, grocery online. I sit on my balcony without listening to idle gossip and observe the beauties of nature around me as I am at present in Goa with lot of greenery around my flat. I go to the terrace to observe the horizons, the sunset, the sunrise and try to listen patiently to the call of different birds, squirrels, cats and dogs, also goats. I have joined online groups for Sahaj Yoga, singing, simple physical exercises. I write blogs, also upgrading my knowledge by doing online courses, keeping in touch with my acquaintances, friends and relatives, watching online cookery videos and trying my hand at cooking the dishes.

In fact, when the lockdown is over, I will continue to live the same way except for visiting places full of natural beauty and keeping alive my Krishna Consciousness. I may also join some NGO and do social service.

Concluding:

What is the difference between motivation and inspiration? Motivation is momentary and expires very commonly, whereas inspiration is permanent. Motivation is an external factor but inspiration comes from within.

So, we need to increase our inspiration level. We can do so by reading books, watching lots of videos to influence our subconscious mind for which we only need to give proper path.

We should also do-little yoga and contemplation, little brisk walking in our flat itself will also help. We need to join some online courses which will lay emphasis on our communication skills.

This is the second blog on Motivation and Inspiration during Covid and I hope you find it useful.

  1. Oh yeah, exercising and a good diet will handle most of my demons, and I do them now not out of discipline, but out of necessity to outrun those terrible feelings. Thanks for your amazing advice!

Very good article.what I like the best is that it’s written from the point of view of the reader and not a writer.Hence it’s very appealing.
