Vedic Mathematics is an assemblage of Approaches or Sutras to solve mathematical calculations rapidly and faster. Vedic Math can be applied to the solving of problems in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, conics, etc. The sutras and sub sutras of Vedic Mathematics help to achieve mathematical operations rapidly and precisely. It is an ancient system of mathematics which was rediscovered from the Vedas between 1911 & 1918 by Shri Bharti Kishna Tirthaji (1884-1960). According to his research, all of Mathematics is based on 16 Sutras and 13 sub-sutras derived from Atharva Veda.
Before we proceed further let us understand the sutras.

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF VEDIC MATH?
The importance of Vedic Math can be elucidated in various ways. The application of Vedic math in the oversimplification of numerical problems is many times faster than the modern approaches of calculations.
The Vedic Math way of simplifying numerical calculations does not require paper and pen.
Learning Vedic Math has lot of Advantages.
- Calculations become easy and short.
- Simplifications can be done in less time.
- Students undergo less mental stress.
- Results obtained by sutra-based methods can be easily verified with normal procedures.
- The possibility of committing errors by students using these sutras is negligible.
- The use of sutras helps students to improve their knowledge and interest in the subject of mathematics.
- Vedic Math helps to solve hard problems using mental calculations.
We need to understand that there are many ways to solve numerical computations. Vedic Mathematics is the Ancient Indian way to Mathematics.
In layman’s Language Vedic Math is defined by 16 Primary Formulas and 13 Sub Formulas which are used to solve different numerical problems. THE MAIN APPEAL OF VEDIC MATHEMATICS IS THAT IT IS AN EXTREMELY FAST WAY OF SOLVING MATHEMATICAL PROBLEMS WHICH FINALLY ENABLES THE CHILD TO DO MENTAL CALCULATIONS.
It is seen usually that when we talk of anything other than modern mathematics, we immediately form an opinion that it might be a narrow application. But with Vedic Math, this type of assumption is totally wrong and baseless.
We should know that Vedic Mathematic principles have a vast range of applications starting from additions, subtractions, multiplications, divisions, square and cube roots, decimals, geometry, algebra, calculus, and more.
Learning of Vedic Mathematics is universal in nature and irrespective of age, anyone who is interested, can start learning it. It takes about 2 months to understand the working of Vedic Mathematics but it will take a longer duration to reach an expert level, so you need to keep practising.
VEDIC MATH IS NOT SOME KIND OF MAGIC OR SORCERY. You can only feel its magic with time, sincerity and practice.
It is most useful to the young kids as they are curious by nature, and it is naturally easier for them to grasp a subject much faster than elders and also retain them for a longer time. When they are able to use the formulas and sub-formulas in performing day to day calculations, it gives a morale boost to their confidence. Not only that, they do away with the fear and hatred of Mathematics as a subject and this gives a positive impetus to their academic performance.
Vedic Mathematics follows the human mind’s normal judgement and cognitive ability rather than sticking to a set of demarcated steps of calculation. This makes it easy to see the purpose behind applying a particular method.
We may sum it up as follows:
- It documents faster calculation than the traditional way.
- It kindles mental calculation.
- It improves students’ mathematical familiarity.
- Vedic Math helps us to develop a spiritual outlook.
- It increases resourcefulness and self-confidence.
- We do no need tools like calculators to solve complicated problems other than the most powerful tool in the universe, that is the human mind.
For Example: You can google the ‘Yaavadunam’ technique and see how fast a problem can be solved with Vedic mathematics.
This system has existed for decades in our ancient civilizations but it has emerged to the surface only now. People not only in India but all over the world are realising the supremacy of this ancient system of Mathematics and trying to acquire the knowledge regardless of age and nationality.
All of you must be aware that competitive examinations include Mathematics as a topic that requires rapid calculations in order to clear the exam on time. Students can be educated in Vedic math to use these strategies and capacities for competitive exams and to answer and clear tests more successfully.
While using Vedic math, a learner does the majority of the computations mentally. The Vedic Math activity is very beneficial for the child as it has the scope to improve their attention, memory, and concentration. You may utilise the Vedic Math approaches not just for competitive examinations like Olympiad, KVPY, and JEE, but also in your ordinary school studies to improve speed and accuracy. All the patterns in Vedic math follows human’s normal reasoning and logic. So, this can be engrossed much more quickly and applied efficiently.
Vedic Math is a subject that is positively worth learning.
Opposing to public belief, Vedic Mathematics is not an alternate numeral system, or even methodology. It is a set of mathematical rules formulated to supplement the usual methods of calculations. Vedic Mathematical Sutras provide simple, straight-forward alternates to calculate, the otherwise awkward and complex calculations.
Benefits of Vedic Math:
- It eliminates math-phobia. And anxiety over Mathematics as a subject.
- It increases speed and accuracy. Mathematics, derived from the Veda, provides one line, mental and super-fast methods along with quick cross-checking systems.
- It is more systematic, simplified, united & faster than the conventional system. Vedic Mathematics offers a novel and entirely diverse approach to the study of Mathematics based on pattern recognition. It allows for continuous expression of a student’s creativity, and is found to be easier to learn.
- It gives a child flexibility, fun and immense satisfaction. Vedic Mathematics alters a dull subject into a lively and delightful one which anyone can learn happily.
- It develops Left & Right Sides of the brains by increasing visualization and concentration abilities.
Let us now perceive some examples:
1] 88 x 28
8 x8 = 64 8 x 2 = 16 + 8 = 24 Ans = 2464
2] 92 x 12
2 x 2 =04 9 x 1 = 9 +2 =11 Ans = 1104
3]If you are asked to find the square root of 1369 through the traditional methods taught to you during your school days, I am sure you would find it very difficult, worst case, you might not be able to find it.
Let us now find the square root of 1369 through the Vedic Math application.
Number ends with 9, Therefore, we know that it’s a perfect square and that its square root will end with 3 or 7.
- Then you should think of two perfect squares between which 1369 exists.
- Numbers are 900 (302) and 1600 (402).
- Find to whom 1369 is closer. As you will be able to see, 1369 is closer to 1600. Therefore, square root is nearer to 40
- Now from Step 2, we know that possibilities are 33 or 37 out of which 37 is closer to 40
- Hence square root of 1369 = 37.
What is unique about Kofalt Global Vedic Math Books are that they are mapped to the Sutras and therefore understanding is better, unique and universal in approach. The following table will explain the same.

I conclude ……………
- Students who are struggling with Math, may find Vedic Math as a life changing viewpoint on how you look at solving maths problems in the first place.
- If you can see the insight in combining learning with pleasure, you will most certainly fall in love with Vedic Math.
- A striking feature of Vedic Math is that the whole system is skillfully interrelated and unified.
- For example, the general multiplication method i.e., Vedic Math multiplication can be easily reversed to allow one-line divisions and the simple squaring method i.e., Vedic math square root, can be reversed to give one-line square roots.
