The Great Personality Rabindranath Tagore and his works are very relevant today also for the following reasons:

First and foremost are the themes of his work: They are worldwide in nature exploring melodies of love, flora and fauna individuality, and devoutness, which reverberates across beliefs and peers. If we look at his poems, plays and essays, we can easily see that they address the social forms prevalent even today.

We can see and feel the universality of his influences through his work in musical compositions, literature and sculpture and paintings.

Tagore had great philosophical perceptions on the themes related to nationalism, education of the masses and of course humanism which hold very important positioning in the globalized world today. His Humanism laid stress on originality and all-inclusive schooling – which was an echo of knowledge, individual progress and literary deliberations.

We can see the greatness of Tagore in his criticism of colonial rule and promotion of feminism and community restructurings. They are very relevant today in the post-colonial sphere of individual identities and the activities rampant today world wide for social justice.

We are proud that Tagore was the recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 and was the first non – European being to do so. A huge applause for his works resounded all over the globe which were celebrated at an international level and has the power today also to foster critical dialogues across the cultures.

Over the times we have seen his works being adapted in various arrangements like films, theatre and literary forms.  They have and will continue to introduce his ideas to viewers, generation after generation which clearly shows and guarantees his relevance even today to new audiences and modern cultures.

I personally found different new layers to Tagore’s writings every time I read them. We can therefore summarize that his themes had great cultural significance in the past, in the present and will continue to do so in the future.
